Hello experts,
I'm currently on the design phase of a project for implementing SAP APO PP/DS in a beverage company. Our biggest issue so far has been with finite tank planning. There are several interchangeable buffer tanks (can hold several products, but only one at a time, and even for the same product only one batch at a time) between the production and packaging processes. We are using resources with storage characteristics that must have fill level 0 before being reused and don't allow multiple products to model the tanks and we want to use product storage definitions and resource networks to link those tanks to the Planning Recipes without creating a new recipe for each tank. It's not working so far...
I opened another thread for that specific scenario but my specific doubt is how these two objects relate to each other. How is the Product Storage Definition affected by the existence of a resource network? Is there any dependency? Are they alternative methods for a similar purpose and if so which one is more appropriate for this scenario?
We are also considering the use of classes in ECC, since by assigning a class to each container resource and linking an operation that uses a container to that class we think the optimizer can alternate tanks without creating new modes. Is this correct? And again, how does this relate to the storage definition and resource network?
Thanks
